In a video newly shared on Twitter this week, the progressive advocacy group known as VoteVets demands court action against Trump ally Michael Flynn for “sedition.” Flynn once served in the Trump administration as the then-president’s national security adviser, and in the time since, he’s become a prominent backer of the delusional conspiracy theory that last year’s presidential election was somehow rigged for Joe Biden. In a video that Flynn posted on July 4 of last year, he and his family can also be seen reciting an apparently QAnon-linked oath, and VoteVets references this issue in their call for action against Flynn.

In the VoteVets video, a narrator says as follows:

‘How did you spend the 4th? Celebrating America? Disgraced retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn spent it leading his family in the traitorous QAnon oath. It’s the same Michael Flynn who called for a military coup in America just weeks ago. Make no mistake: Michael Flynn is leading a dangerous network of traitors that threatens real world violence. Michael Flynn should be recalled to active duty and court-martialed for sedition.’

Watch below:

As for Flynn’s call for a coup, at a QAnon-linked event that took place in Texas not too long ago, Flynn was asked why a military coup like unfolded in the Asian country of Myanmar recently can’t also happen in the United States. The questioner’s idea seemed to be that such a coup could help with the fight against the imaginary election fraud that significant numbers of Trump supporters seem to believe was responsible for Biden’s win. Flynn replied that something like what took place in Myanmar “should,” in fact, happen in the U.S. Later, Flynn posted a message on the right-wing social media site Parler insisting that there “is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort” — although what he said is on video!

Notably, a leading Democratic member of Congress has also endorsed the idea of potential court action against Flynn. Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.), vice-chair of the House Armed Services Committee, said that Flynn’s remarks “border on sedition,” adding that such is “certainly conduct unbecoming an officer.” As she also put it: “Those are both things that can be tried under the Uniform Code of Military Justice and I think that as a retiree of the military, it should certainly be a path that we consider to have consequences for these types of words.”
