He broke the Taliban’s co-founder and current leader out of a Pakistani prison. Then, Donald Trump sent his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (R) over to negotiate a time bomb that would detonate three months after President Joe Biden took office. Fortunately, POTUS delayed the May 1 date to closer to September 11 to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan. No wonder the Republicans have been talking about everything and anything to avoid this news. As The Lincoln Project shows us, things get worse, much worse.
Trump minions ranging from Tucker Carlson to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the MyPillow guy were truth bombing about a whole range of topics, that is, except the Taliban. From no-mask mandates to Dominion voting machines, they took the world, shook it up, and gave the news the old up-is-down spin.
Is it possible that Trump and friends will be accountable for lying about wearing masks as toddlers lay in hospital beds on ventilators and 630,000 Americans succumbed to this deadly virus? Earlier, as a man was in a hospital dying of COVID-19, he shouted at the nurses he did not have coronavirus, because there was no such thing.
Tucker broadcast from Hungary where he was hanging with his buddy the dictator. Trump’s army stormed the Capitol Building to hang then-Vice President Mike Pence and do serious harm to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). And a Fox News talk show host endorsed Mein Kampf. It seems that they preferred Trumpism to the not-so-Grand Old Party, dictatorships to our precious democracy.
Is it time to look at the “T” word? Treason? Let us see what our Constitution says, 18 U.S. Code § 2381 on Treason:
‘Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.’
