You know that old uncle that has lost it. He rants and rages, becoming more and more paranoid. He sees enemies hiding under his bed, so he cannot sleep. We see him up at all times of the night calling people who probably would like to be asleep, like normal people. It is time to do something about him. We talk about what to do with the uncle, because now he has become violent. The House Select Committee investigating January 6 wants to know, too.

The committee requested a rich treasure chest of documents in hopes of sifting out records of Donald Trump’s mental health status. They also wanted records that may have shown whether he was thinking about trying to steal the election by using our U.S. military by invoking Martial Law, CNN reported.

Not only that, the House Select Committee has sought records about some of his immediate family members, his three eldest children, and aides. In addition, they wanted the White House’ and agencies’ records that may have shown that Trump intended to use martial law and any analysis of that.

The House sent out a number of letters. One letter to the Pentagon from the House committee sought any records about Martial Law between November 3, 2020 and January 20, 2021. It read:

‘[T]he potential use of military power to impede or ensure the peaceful transfer of power [and] possible attempts by President Donald Trump to remain in office after January 20, 2021.’

One of the letters asked the Defense Department to turn over documents showing what Trump was willing to do to stay in power, according to CBS News:

‘[A]ll documents and communications relating to the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act, including but not limited to documents and communications concerning that possibility with respect to preparation for the events of January 6, 2021, or responding to the January 6, 2021, attack.’

Former U.S. attorney in the Obama administration Barbara McQuade said:

‘I think there was some concern that President Trump might be interested in creating some sort of ruckus just so that he can say,”Ope, I need to use the Insurrection Act. I’m shutting down all of D.C. today. You won’t be able to certify the election.” And create just enough chaos to create room for him to change the election.’

Even the summer before, the ex-president brought up the idea of invoking the Insurrection Act, right after police officers caused George Floyd’s death. Last June, Trump said:

‘If a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.’
