Adam Kinzinger Roasts GOP Losers For Eating Horse Paste

In far-right circles, the idea of using ivermectin — which is an anti-parasitic drug often used in livestock — against COVID-19 has spread recently, and calls to poison control centers about the drug have risen in tandem, hitting some five times their pre-pandemic level. Promotion and usage of ivermectin in right-wing circles seems to reflect both opposition to duly established science and an ignorant acceptance of the idea of a one-size-fits-all cure, but one thing’s for sure: it’s ridiculous. Stunningly, even Republican leaders like Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) have thrown their weight behind at least the possibility of ivermectin being useful against COVID-19.

Besides other factors contributing to the promotion of the drug, there also seems to be an insistence among certain Republicans on being immaturely contrarian just for the sake of being contrarian. This week, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) shamed those promoting ivermectin for their nonsense. As the Congressman pointedly put it on Twitter:

‘Just FYI the vaccine works. Science proves it. [Ivermectin] is horse paste, doesn’t work, nor does hydroxychloroquine. Why would that even be controversial or a tattoo of your politics? We are broken.’

At a recent town hall event, Sen. Paul claimed to constituents that “hatred for Trump” among scientists was keeping researchers from looking further into the usage of ivermectin against COVID-19 — which is just ridiculous. No, Rand, the entire global scientific community — or at least the American scientific community — is not basing its entire approach to a particular medication on their supposed animus towards Donald Trump. The self-obsession among these Republicans is just remarkable, but there’s no anti-Trump conspiracy behind basic reality! These are just the facts — ivermectin is an anti-parasitic drug often used in livestock. That’s reality, but reality certainly hasn’t stopped Trump and some of his closest allies from seeing a conspiracy behind truly so many issues thus far.
