GOP Senator Rallies Republicans To Turn Against Trump

President Joe Biden should find a semi-normal Republican senator before he or she bails, unable to stomach the Trumpkins. Then with our president’s great political skill, he could convince the jettisoning senator to become a Democrat, a conservative Democrat who thinks the worn-out filibuster should be trash binned. That way, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) would lose his wicked power over our government. But another senator dropped out before our President Biden could get him. Or could he?

The ex has worked to push out “normal” conservative Republicans and replace them with far-right loonies. According to The POLITICO, the Chair of the North Carolina GOP, Michael Whatley said:

‘Trump has reshaped the Republican Party.’

Former Missouri State Senator John Lamping spoke about retiring U.S. Senator Roy Blunt:

‘Roy is a super-super insider and that’s not what the base wants. No one is running to be a Roy Blunt senator. They’re running to be a Donald Trump senator. If somebody becomes a serious threat, they’ll be accused by their opponents of being more like Roy Blunt.’

Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) spoke to CNBC at the Ambrosetti Forum in Italy on Friday and made headlines by announcing he would not run again for office. Then, he issued this warning.

He called for his party to not nominate Donald Trump in 2024, calling the ex-president what many do not say aloud, “completely unacceptable:”

‘I think that the future of our party is to be a party of ideas, and not to be a party about any one individual, and I think we will learn a lot from the next set of primaries. I think after what happened post-2020 election, I think the president’s behavior was completely unacceptable, so I don’t think he should be the nominee to lead the party in 2024.’

The senator was one of those few who voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial. This time it was due to the ex’s part in the January 6 insurrection and his “stolen” election lies:

‘The Pennsylvania Republican voted to convict Trump in the impeachment trial over his role in stoking the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.’

The other Republican senators who voted for Trump’s second impeachment were, according to NPR: Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Richard Burr (R-NC), Bill Cassidy (R-LA) Susan Collins (R-ME), Mitt Romney (R-UT), and Ben Sasse, (R-NE).

Toomey continued:

‘I think after what happened post-2020 election, I think the president’s behavior was completely unacceptable, so I don’t think he should be the nominee to lead the party in 2024.’

But that was not Toomey’s only complaint about Trump. After all, Donald made the deal with the Talibans to not shoot at any of our military, and we would leave by early May of this year. The senator recognized the former president’s time bomb left for President Biden for what it was:

‘My view is we had gotten to a point, and we could have sustained a very modest presence on the ground, extremely low rate of casualties, and we hadn’t had a death in Afghanistan in well over a year, a modest cost monetarily.’

Toomey also criticized Trump’s deal with the Taliban to withdraw U.S. forces entirely from Afghanistan, a move he said was compounded by current President Joe Biden’s administration’s imposition of a symbolic date for evacuation of American forces:

‘My view is we had gotten to a point, and we could have sustained a very modest presence on the ground, extremely low rate of casualties, and we hadn’t had a death in Afghanistan in well over a year, a modest cost monetarily.’

‘For that price, we would have supported the Afghans who were actually the tip of the spear, the ones fighting, and could have prevented the re-emergence of terrorists from a Taliban-controlled state.’

Toomey told CNBC’s Steve Sedgwick:

‘I’m a conservative Republican by any objective measure, by looking at the voting record, by looking at my views compared to that of a traditional conservative Republican. It is President Trump who departed from Republican orthodoxy and conservative orthodoxy in a variety of ways. I stuck to the conservative views that I’ve had for a long time, he had a different point of view on matters such as trade and sometimes immigration and other things.’
