Trump Begins Process To Oust McConnell From Leadership

Trump has been sending out feelers that Mitch McConnell has had his turn, The Daily Beast reported. The ex-president has had quiet little talks with senators and his own allies about prying the seven-term leader from the lectern, forcing him to drop the gavel, and putting him out to pasture. But it appears that the job does not hold much interest for them. What Trump does do though is drive the wedge ever more deeply between the McConnell people and the Trumpsters, who stand loyal to the former president, never questioning the boss, and granting his every wish.

The Daily Beast reported that had the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Miley not intervened, we would all be sitting in Trumpistan. According to excerpts from Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s new book, Peril:

‘[Miley] was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election” and agreed with Nancy Pelosi’s assertion that he was “crazy.”’

‘So as Trump raged about how the election had supposedly been “stolen” from him, Milley single-handedly called a top-secret meeting of senior military officials in the Pentagon’s war room to deter Trump from launching nuclear weapons or a military strike.’

According to Peril, McConnell was completely stressed out that:

‘[A] phone call from President-elect Biden would unhinge Trump that he wanted Senator Chris Coons to tell Biden not to call. Yet McConnell still voted against impeaching Trump and refuses to reign in racist GOP members, like Rep. Paul Gosar and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who support the white supremacist “replacement theory” and supported the Jan. 6th insurrection.’

The Beast predicts that January 6 was “simply a sneak preview and a rough draft of the inevitable clash.” The minority is perfectly willing to use violence to capture power and control As former Trump strategist Brad Parscale says in Peril:

‘[Trump] had an army. An army for Trump. He wants that back. I don’t think he sees it as a comeback. He sees it as vengeance.’

The New Yorker wrote that America needs the strong support of voters and their Democratic Party willing to:

‘[Be] strengthening voting rights, abolishing the filibuster, countering right-wing disinformation, with Biden and Democrats flexing every ounce of their power to take down an obstructionist minority that has no interest or desire to play by the rules or participate in a pluralistic democracy.’

McConnell dramatically dumped Trump on January 6 in “the most powerful speech of his life,” according to the New Yorker:

‘The voters, the courts, and the states have all spoken. If we overrule them, it would damage our republic forever. Then, in a final jab, he pointed out that—contrary to Trump’s ludicrous claim that he’d won a second term by a landslide—the election actually was not unusually close…Trump lost by seven million votes in the popular ballot, and 306–232 in the Electoral College.’

A prominent Republican strategist noted:

‘Nothing’s ever happenstance with McConnell. He was allegedly “pleased” about the Democrats’ intention to impeach the President a second time…Unnamed associates revealed to reporters on Capitol Hill that McConnell was no longer speaking to Trump, and might vote to convict him if the impeachment process moved to a Senate trial.’

Then on January 13, McConnell said:

‘The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the President and other powerful people.’

Political scientist Norman Ornstein said this about the senator who brought in 200 federal judges:

‘I was surprised at Mitch’s comments. They were more forthright than I expected. Good for him! There is no way that McConnell has had an epiphany and will now change his fundamental approach. He will always act ruthlessly when it serves his own interest.’
