White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki fielded questions on Monday about Covid vaccinations for people who have illegally crossed the U.S. border. Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy managed to annoy the whole audience who later cheered as she knocked him off of his dumb-down stool.
Ah, Peter Doocy. What a little ray of moonshine he is upon Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s Monday and every day of the week for that matter. If he minds her explaining the way of the political world as slowly as she would if explaining it to a truculent second grader, he does not show it.
As always, Psaki circles the room calling upon reporters from around the country and even the globe. This was a rough week for President Joe Biden, yet he took it as if he was no older than 42 instead of 80. Finally, it was Doocy time for the press secretary.
He demanded an answer to whether illegally migrating people were being asked as they came into our country for “proof of Covid vaccination or negative Covid test:”
‘That’s the policy for people who fly into the country. So why if somebody walks into the country right across the river, does somebody ask them to see their vaccination card?’
With infinite patience, Psaki explained to the Fox News reporter how things worked in a democracy. She said:
‘Let me explain to you again, Peter, how our process works. As individuals come across the border and they are both assessed for whether they have any symptoms. If they have symptoms, the intention is for them to be quarantined. That is our process.’
Doocy replied:
‘But they’re here. What’s the difference?’
Psaki explained to the Eddy Haskill of the political world as she very carefully enunciatiated her words:
‘It’s not the same thing. These are individuals — as we’ve noted and has been discussed — we are expelling individuals based on Title 42 because of COVID, because we want to prevent a scenario where large numbers of people are gathering, posing a threat to the community and also to the migrants themselves.’
‘So those are the policies that we’ve put in place. because the CDC continues to recommend Title 42 be in place, given we’re facing a global pandemic.’
Time to go home, Doocy. We think that we hear your mother calling for you.
