After President Joe Biden addressed the United Nations General Assembly this week, the veterans advocacy group known as VoteVets released an incisive video showcasing the difference in the responses to Biden and former President Donald Trump from that international assembly. Trump was quite literally laughed at while speaking to the United Nations back in 2018 after he said that his administration had “accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.” Evidently, the world leaders who were present were uninterested in entertaining what amounted to a rally speech from a bumbling egomaniac. At the conclusion of Biden’s 2021 speech before the United Nations, resounding applause rang out.
The new video from VoteVets plays clips of the laughter at Trump and applause for Biden right after one another, showcasing the distinction. In a caption for the post, the organization shared as follows:
‘It’s clear who the world respects, and who they thought was a joke.’
In the video itself, Biden concludes his remarks with the following:
‘We will choose to build a better future. We — you and I. We have the will and capacity to make it better. Ladies and gentlemen, we cannot afford to waste any more time. Let’s get to work. Let’s make our better future now. We can do this. It’s within our power and capacity.’

Trump’s foreign policy legacy hinges on failure. Throughout his time in office, he failed to secure the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, failed to set up an agreement in Afghanistan that would preserve the country’s government, alienated allies at NATO and in individual countries around the world, severely undercut the Iran nuclear deal by withdrawing the U.S. from the agreement, threw a wrench in international negotiations surrounding climate change by moving to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accord, sparked a trade war with China via punitive tariffs that were paid by American importers, failed to secure meaningful consequences for Saudi leaders after a crown prince in the country directed the execution of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and the list goes on from there.
