Arizona Officials Pile On Trump For Losing To Biden Yet Again

Even a broken clock sometimes gets it right, apparently — in Arizona this week, news emerged that a draft report summarizing the findings from a highly disputed audit of the presidential election results in Maricopa County showed that Biden won. Previously, local officials had already concluded as much, and Biden was certified as the winner of Arizona as a whole, but Republicans in the Arizona state Senate stepped in, subpoenaed materials from last year’s electoral process, and tasked a company with no prior election auditing experience with running an audit of Maricopa County. After the draft report emerged, Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jack Sellers touted the outcome and condemned election liars.

As Sellers put it:

‘You don’t have to dig deep into the draft copy of the Arizona Senate/Cyber Ninja audit report to confirm what I already knew — the candidates certified by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General did, in fact, win. This means the tabulation equipment counted the ballots as they were designed to do, and the results reflect the will of the voters. That should be the end of the story. Everything else is just noise. But I’m sure it won’t be… I hope those holding on to their anger for the past ten months will see the truth now and put their energy into supporting the democratic process instead of trying to tear it down.’

Read Sellers’s statement below:

Local officials in Maricopa County — many of whom are themselves Republicans — have consistently opposed the so-called audit of the presidential election results in their jurisdiction. The audit was not preceded by any credible claims of systematic fraud. Instead, it was based in conspiracy theories to the point that, early on, audit workers were reported to have been looking for bamboo fibers on the basis of the ludicrous conspiracy theory that fraudulent ballots may have been shipped in from Asia.

Going forward, Maricopa County authorities said via the county’s official Twitter account that, no matter the (correct) finding that Biden’s win was legitimate, “the report is also littered with errors & faulty conclusions about how Maricopa County conducted the 2020 General Election.” Subsequently, “Board members & election officials will pay close attention to what is said at Friday’s scheduled Senate hearing & share facts as needed,” according to the county.
