Philadelphia resident Michael Dickinson has become one of the latest members of the mob that stormed the Capitol in January to be caught and charged by federal authorities. Dickinson was arrested on Wednesday and now faces federal criminal charges including assaulting, resisting, or impeding police — which appears to be a felony offense in this case. At one point during the riot, Dickinson hurled an apparent coffee tumbler at police, hitting an officer in the face and chest. Later, Dickinson was also captured on video “picking up an object appearing to be a large bucket filled with a liquid and throwing the liquid and the bucket at law enforcement officers,” as a charging document states.

The FBI apparently received word that Dickinson was the individual seen throwing the coffee tumbler from a tipster, who indicated that they were “familiar with Dickinson through mutual acquaintances,” according to that charging document. Notably, Dickinson was himself injured during the riot, having been hit in the face by a rubber bullet, and he later received medical treatment for the wound from a local hospital. Among the well over 600 Trump supporters who have been charged for their roles in the Capitol riot, at least 185 have been charged so far with assaulting or impeding law enforcement. At least 140 officers have been reported to have been injured during the violence, with certain personnel sustaining especially long-lasting injuries from the savage attack by Trump’s supporters.

Trump has openly expressed support for those who’ve been charged in connection to the riot, seriously undercutting the obsessive assertion from those on the right that they’re “pro-police.” Trump said last month that Americans’ “hearts and minds are with the people being persecuted so unfairly relating to the January 6th protest concerning the Rigged Presidential Election” — and just to be clear here, the people who he’s expressing support for include individuals who brutally assaulted law enforcement personnel. One of the rioters who’ve been caught and charged hit police 16 times with an aluminum baseball bat and kicked “a sergeant five times as he and another rioter pushed a door against the trapped officer’s head,” as summarized by the NYC-area publication known as the Times-Herald Record. These are the people that Trump is supporting — and this is what some Republicans seem inclined to pretend never happened.
