Adam Schiff Goes After Marjorie Greene For Being Totally Nuts

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said that he believes Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to be “legitimately nuts” over her promotion of lies about the integrity of last year’s presidential election, which Trump and his allies seem ready to claim was somehow stolen on behalf of Biden till kingdom come. No evidence that legitimately proves their stolen election theories has ever emerged, and no court has ever accepted the rigged election idea — but these facts obviously don’t matter to these people. Jesus Christ himself could come down from Heaven on a flaming chariot, proclaiming Joe Biden to be the winner of the 2020 presidential election — and some in line with Trump would no doubt still cling to their nonsense.

Schiff made his comments about Greene on an episode of “The New Abnormal,” a podcast released by The Daily Beast. Asked if certain Republicans are “pretending to be” or “genuinely” crazy, Schiff opined as follows:

‘I think the MTGs are legitimately nuts, but most of the Republican conference that’s pushing the Big Lie understands it’s a big lie. They’re not stupid. They know exactly what they’re doing. And then it is just craven capitulation to Donald Trump because they fear a primary, because they want to advance within the party. For every one Liz Cheney, there are at least five willing to say, ‘If you’re not willing to push the Big Lie, I volunteer. You know, nothing’s more important to me than my ambition. And if it means tearing down one of the pillars of our democracy… then sign me up.’ Sadly, that’s where most of the Republicans are right now.’

Schiff is on point in his assessments, of course. Somehow, it’s become a minority position within the Republican Party to be willing to acknowledge the basic reality that Joe Biden was the legitimate winner of the 2020 presidential election — although such isn’t exactly surprising at this point, considering the large number of Republicans across both chambers of Congress who voted against certifying the outcome of the 2020 presidential race, even after a mob of Trump-inspired rioters stormed the Capitol under the metaphorical banner of lies about the election. They’re living in a fairy tale in which imaginary conspirators attack “patriots,” or whatever, and as they live out their nonsense, real-world democracy is at risk.
