Conspiracy theorists have varying ideas about how and why things happen, but among Trump supporters, stories don’t fit together or make sense at all.
Serious question for the January 6 deniers: 1) was this a “patriotic act” worthy of pledging allegiance to a flag from that day? Was it antifa? A false flag by the FBI? Was it peaceful in which case the FBI or antifa were peaceful? Lots of theories among deniers.

One side says the insurrection was no insurrection, but a patriotic act to save the country from evil Democrats trying to steal the Trump supporters’ freedoms. Others, however, say that the attack was committed by Antifa with the specific purpose of making the twice-impeached ex-president who never won the popular vote look bad. If Antifa did it, is it still patriotic?
Another groups says that the entire riot was a false flag planted by the FBI, a theory that Fox News’ Tucker Carlson has embraced and even aired a documentary saying so. Others say that the FBI has already dismissed the entire investigation, which isn’t exactly true, either. and that the FBI’s decision is trustworthy enough that the whole matter should be dropped. Is the FBI so evil that they’ll stage an attack on the Capitol or should we trust their judgment?
Other groups say the entire attack was peaceful, with like-minded Trump supporters gathering, being ushered into the Capitol by police, whom they were “hugging and kissing,” according to Trump. If that is true AND the insurrection was a false flag planted by the FBI, or an attack on the country by Antifa (which doesn’t actually exist), does that mean it was still peaceful if it wasn’t Trump’s supporters beating police with American and “thin blue line” flags?
