Chris Christie Tells Republicans That Trump’s Time Is Up

He ran for president once and lost, but now he believes that he can predict the future. Can he? The reign of Donald Trump may be over according to former New Jersey Mayor Chris Christie (R). Yet the ex-president vehemently disagrees with him. Looking at how the Republicans in Congress jump to his every wish, Christie’s forecast is a bit difficult to believe. But he does make a strong case here.
Christie was speaking to top donors and bundlers this weekend when he insisted that the only way forward for the not-so-Grand Old Party was away from Trump. He based part of that upon the Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin’s ((R-VA) win on Tuesday. The new governor won the votes of Independents by telling them that he listened to them and would fight for what they wanted in a message ” that doesn’t hurt their ears” Christie said, according to CNN.
Youngkin’s opponent Terry McAuliffe (D-VA) ran against Trump. That was one strike against him, because our ex was not on the ballot. Another strike against him was Virginians once elected him as governor. He has been a long-time politician, and the people of Virginia wanted someone new and seemingly more genuine. The third strike was that he insulted the state’s mothers by saying they had no business commenting on their children’s education — this after many homeschooled them for a year.
Christie address the Republican Jewish Coalition conference in Las Vegas on Saturday. He was one of perhaps half a dozen presidential presidential candidate possibilities for 2024. Many pundits believe that Trump will run, and that would pretty much knock everyone else out of the water, because he would carry his base, which is 25 to 30 percent of Republicans.

Christie said Youngkin and Jack Ciattarelli of New Jersey, who nearly won its governorship met the voters where they were at the gas pump, the grocery store, and their children’s schools:

‘We can no longer talk about the past and the past elections — no matter where you stand on that issue, no matter where you stand, it is over. Every minute that we spend talking about 2020 — while we’re wasting time doing that, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are laying ruin to this country. We better focus on that and take our eyes off the rearview mirror and start looking through the windshield again.’

Christie told CNN that Trump can greatly improve Republican candidates’ chances in the midterm 2022 elections, but only if he will “begin talking about the future and tell the truth about the election and move on:”

‘People want us to be direct with them. They want someone to fight for them. But they want them to fight in a way that doesn’t hurt their ears. We have to speak to their dreams, their hopes, their aspirations for the future. If we don’t do that, then we won’t once again win back the votes that we began to win back in Virginia and New Jersey last Tuesday night.’

Former Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) said they would bow out should Trump run, but not Christie:

‘Absolutely not. My decision will never be based on anybody else’s candidacy. It will be based on whether I believe I have the talent, the skill and the ability to be able to win. And anybody who says that they’ll step aside for anybody else, I’d say to you, doesn’t belong being president. If you don’t believe in yourself enough to stand up to anyone, then you can’t possibly stand up for everyone.’

“Just tell the truth” Christie advised Trump, as The Newsweek Magazine reported, which of course is impossible.
