Indictment Of Donald Trump By Merrick Garland/DOJ Requested By Jim Acosta

His back-and-forths with Donald Trump were legendary. The chief domestic correspondent for CNN’s style was edgy but not sharp enough to draw blood. Of course, we could watch the ex-president’s face go red on camera as Jim Acosta made the former president’s blood boil. And the CNN correspondent is still honing in on course, never letting go of former POTUS’s failed January 6 coup. But Acosta has a complaint, and it is not directed at Trump this time.

It appears that the journalist has stepped into the limelight once again. He has called for Attorney General (AG) Merrick Garland to prosecute 45 for the violence surrounding the insurrection. Acosta said:

‘[W]e are living in an era of political violence.’

He continued, not so much concerned about whether the violence went on to surround the ex-president like dirt surrounded the Peanuts character Pig Pen. No, Acosta wondered whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) would ever act on Trump’s attempt to overthrow our democracy. And he has held the AG personally responsible for the inaction.

The consequences of Representative Fred Upton (R-MI) voting to pass President Joe Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure bill and condemning Representative Paul Gosar’s (R-TX) vile cartoon were immediate. Why? Donald Trump did not like the bills and apparently had no problem with the anime death cartoon.

After voting for the first infrastructure bill, Upton received an alarming voicemail message threatening not only him but his entire family, NBC reported:

‘I hope you die. I hope everybody in your f—— family dies,” while labeling him a “traitor.”‘

The Gosar video portrayed the representative killing one of his colleagues Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) (D-NY) and wounding President Biden, which is a crime.

Acosta pointed out that Trump’s hangers-on have been displaying violence in the online posts and threatening Congress for a long time. He said, CNN reported:

‘The truth is, we have seen this movie before.’

Acosta pointed to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) who left no doubt but that he was remaining silent. The correspondent asked:

‘How many times does this need to happen before we all agree on what it is — incitement? And the reason why it keeps happening is that there has been zero accountability for those who do the inciting. Zero. The end result is an incentive structure for political threats and violence in this country.’

He had a point. We have been approaching the first anniversary of the attack on our Capitol. Part of the problem has been that members of Trump’s inner circle have ignored the Select Committee’s subpoenas.

Still, AG Garland did finally indict Steve Three-Shirts Bannon for flaunting the Committee’s subpoenas for testimony and documents. So perhaps, the logjam may be breaking.

Acosta demanded that the AG:

‘[S]tart this investigation.’

Then the correspondent played the audio of the ex-president’s response to his followers. They had called for then-Vice President Mike Pence’s hanging, their chants echoing in the Capitol Building. The audio was from a Trump interview with ABC News’ Jonathon Karl for his new book, Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show:

‘What’s amazing is that Trump basically tweeted all of this back on Jan. 6. As dishonest as Trump can be, he can be remarkably candid, which begs the question: Isn’t it time for the attorney general to target Trump?’

‘Ask him what he was doing pressuring those election officials and his own vice president to overturn the election results. You know he wants to talk. You know he wants to be put on the stand.’

The journalist continued saying “Let’s go Department of Justice (DOJ):”

‘If our system of justice cannot stop the likes of Trump from attacking our democracy through threats and intimidation like a mob boss, or even using outright violence, what’s to stop it from happening again? This democracy is only as strong as the people willing to protect it, and if we don’t protect it, we’ll be letting it happen again. What’s worse, storming the Capitol or letting them get away with it? Let’s go Department of Justice, we’ve been waiting on you.’
