Most of his government implants have been ejected, but Donald Trump’s postmaster general remains firmly in place. Joe Biden cannot fire DeJoy because that power rests with an appointed USPS Board of Governors. Fortunately though, there is someone who can make his life miserable.
Soon after DeJoy was anointed, he literally destroyed million-dollar rapid sorting machines to slow down the ballots during the 2020 election. And he continued placing obstacles in the spokes of the mail system. Monday, Representative Katie Porter (D-CA) focused her highly intelligent laser-like intensity on DeJoy, and a witness confirmed what an undermining thug he was.
Porter brought out her trusty whiteboard and went to work on the postmaster general. She was particularly interested in an audit indicating how deliveries had gone to rack and ruin under DeJoy’s destructive little hands.
She first pointed to mail delivery. Back in the spring of 2020, the mail delivery was “92 percent” on time. That had plummeted to “80 percent by the fall of 2020,” in a Twitter video of the hearing:
‘The audit found that by the spring of 2020, mail delivery was right around 92 percent — that is 92 percent of the mail got there within the standard of on time. That dropped to 80 percent by the fall of 2020, and by January of 2021 was hovering around 61 percent. I realize this has gone up somewhat since then, but I wanted to ask you, when did Mr. DeJoy take over as postmaster? Do you know?’
The witness responded:
‘The summer of 2020.’
Then, Porter began making her point in earnest:
‘The summer of 2020. So June of 2020. And what happened after he took over? Did the rate of on-time mail delivery go up or down?’
Once again, the witness responded:
‘Went down.’
Then, the Congresswoman went in for the DeJoy kill:
‘I’m a professor, and I used to do a lot of grading. And 92 is considered widely like an A-minus, 80 is considered hanging on, hanging on to the lowest possible B. 60 percent is at best a D-minus.’
‘The Postal Service delivers 48 percent of the world’s mail. It is an institution, it is a civic treasure. And we let it get all the way, what you found, is we let it get all the way down to that D-minus level.’
With one Democrat on the USPS board loyal to Trump, we will have to wait until at least after the holiday season until a Biden-friendly member can be appointed.
