During a new appearance on MSNBC, Hillary Clinton put former President Donald Trump and his political allies on rhetorical blast for their undermining of democracy. She tied their actions to those of anti-democratic agitators in countries around the world, insisting that here at home, we “have to hold people accountable for their actions, particularly when those actions threaten our way of life, our rule of law, our future as a democracy.” In other words, authorities ought to pursue those who put democracy in the United States in jeopardy through means like trying to overturn the outcome of a verifiably secure presidential election, as Trump did.
What would we say if we saw this happening in another country?https://t.co/h68HfuEaDp

Although investigative efforts are underway targeting those involved in the attack on the Capitol in January and circumstances surrounding it, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has previously stated that he “think[s] the Justice Department should be doing a lot more than what I can see” regarding Trump’s actions, and that was the general direction that Clinton went with her remarks, as well.

On MSNBC, Clinton commented to host Rachel Maddow as follows:
‘We have got to end impunity. We have to hold people accountable for their actions, particularly when those actions threaten our way of life, our rule of law, our future as a democracy. And so, I am determined to continue to speak out, to do whatever I can. And in fact, in the book we wrote, State of Terror, there is a plot against the country by people who truly want to turn the clock back. They believe that the progress we’ve made on all kinds of civil rights, and human rights; the cultural changes that have taken place are so deeply threatening that they want to stage a coup.’

She added as follows:
‘That’s truly what is behind Trump and his enablers, and those who invaded and attacked our Capitol. They don’t like the world we’re living in, and they have that in common with autocratic leaders from Russia to Turkey to Hungary to Brazil and so many other places, who are driven by personal power, and greed, and corruption.’
