The Editorial Board of The Denver Post has now joined those speaking out after Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) repeatedly singled out Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for bigoted mockery. On at least two occasions, Boebert compared Omar, who is Muslim, to a suicide bomber, and amid criticism of her remarks, she’s mostly stood firm — a call between Boebert and Omar after damning footage of the far-right Congresswoman began to circulate went predictably off the rails, as Boebert continued to cling to the false claim that Omar is somehow fundamentally opposed to the United States itself. The Denver Post offered an apology to Omar on Boebert’s behalf.

The Post shared as follows:

‘Boebert is clearly incapable of remorse or reflection, so as her fellow Coloradans — a beautiful place of tolerance and respect, diversity and freedom — we will help her. We apologize to the Congresswoman and to the Muslim community for Boebert’s insensitive remarks. Such remarks, no matter how innocently intended, have no place in American discourse. Boebert… most certainly should not have suggested she or any Muslim should be suspected of terrorism based on their religion. It is incumbent on Colorado’s representatives to treat all Americans with respect and dignity regardless of differences of opinion… We are embarrassed a Colorado representative is engaged in widening this divide, and we are sorry we didn’t call her out the first time she used a derogatory reference toward you and other members of Congress who are women and minorities.’

The paper added that they ask Boebert to “stop spewing her hatred across this great nation.” Read more at this link. Separate from general condemnations for her remarks, Boebert is also facing calls for her removal from committees in the House. Over three dozen House Democrats signed onto a statement pushing for that move this week, which — if enacted — would make Boebert the third far-right member of Congress to be dealt the punishment. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) were also booted from committees — which the House can do with a simple majority in favor of the move — after their own expressions of violence. Before joining Congress, Greene expressed support via social media for executing prominent Democrats, while Gosar posted an edited, partly animated video depicting him murdering Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

The signatories of the large, joint statement calling for Boebert’s removal from committees insisted that members of Congress “owe it to [Muslim constituents], and to every person who has been the recipient of harassment and verbal abuse based on their religion, race, gender, sexuality, or other identity, to stand up and show them that their votes to send us here mean something — that our values mean something, and are worth defending.”
