A right-wing group that spent 10 months examining last year’s presidential election in Wisconsin has now concluded its inquiry with the finding that there is no evidence of systematic election fraud in the state, where Biden won. Of course, this finding seems unlikely to suddenly get Trump to stop pushing claims to the contrary, but nevertheless, the conclusion of this particular investigation adds yet another item to the list of efforts to uncover potential widespread fraud that have come up short. At no point has any court accepted the idea that fraud was responsible for Biden’s election victory.
The election investigation in question was conducted by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) and found what it described as “no evidence of widespread voter fraud.” That sort of fraud, in the group’s description, would include efforts like “attempting to procure votes that were never cast,” which is something that Trump has repeatedly claimed took place around the country. Trump has pointed to the fact that vote tallies changed as time went on as supposed evidence of meddling… but that’s how counting works. The more you count what in this case would be ballots, the more that totals change. This isn’t complicated.
Meanwhile, as WILL put it:
‘There was no evidence of widespread voter fraud. In all likelihood, more eligible voters cast ballots for Joe Biden than Donald Trump. We found little direct evidence of fraud, and for the most part, an analysis of the results and voting patterns does not give rise to an inference of fraud.’
As reported by Forbes, the “investigation, which examined nearly 20,000 ballots and 29,000 absentee ballot envelopes alongside other analysis methods, found “limited” evidence of individuals casting ballots when ineligible to do so, such as 130 reported instances of registered felons voting and 42 reported ballots from deceased voters.” Although those numbers are small, it’s not immediately clear how credible that the group’s tabulations really are, and even if they didn’t conclude that fraud was responsible for Biden’s win, accuracy is important. WILL did also note, however, that they uncovered “no evidence of significant problems with voting machines,” which is something that directly reflects the reality that certain Trumpers refuse to accept.
There’s another election audit in Wisconsin that’s currently underway under the auspices of former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman. There’s no reason to believe that it will uncover anything major that’s been missed in the many other examinations of last year’s presidential election. Certain Republicans just refuse to accept the truth. Read more at this link.
