The House committee investigating the Capitol riot announced subpoenas for six additional allies of ex-President Donald Trump on Friday, and the panel is keeping the rhetorical heat on these individuals. The range of the investigative panel’s work is broad, and the subpoenas reflect that — among those targeted are an ex-Trump administration official turned Republican Congressional candidate, a leader of the right-wing organization known as Moms for America, and an organizer within the Stop the Steal movement, whose name references the baseless belief that the presidential election was somehow stolen from Trump.

As the committee put it on Twitter this Saturday:

‘The witnesses we subpoenaed apparently worked to stage the rallies on January 5th and 6th, and some had direct communication with the former President regarding the rally at the Ellipse directly preceding the attack on the U.S. Capitol.’

Because of the apparent direct communication between certain individuals who have now been subpoenaed and the then-president, these individuals could provide critical insights regarding what Trump knew and was talking about in the lead-up to the assault on the Capitol. Among those who were in touch with Trump are Robert “Bobby” Peede, Jr. and Max Miller — the latter of whom is the ex-official-turned-candidate — who together “met with the former President in his private dining room off the Oval Office on January 4th, 2021 to discuss the January 6th Ellipse rally and the speakers at the rally,” according to a press release from the committee.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), who chairs the committee, added as follows:

‘The Select Committee is seeking information from individuals who were involved in or witnesses to the coordination and planning of the events leading up to the violent attack on our democracy on January 6th… The Select Committee expects these witnesses to join the hundreds of individuals who have already cooperated with our investigation as we work to provide the American people with answers about what happened on January 6th and ensure nothing like that day ever happens again.’
