The January 6 Select Committee just sent Sebastian Gorka, the Deputy Assistant and strategist for Donald Trump, a subpoena for his phone records. Naturally as a member of the Trump Gang, Gorka sued the committee for goi beyond its authority. Then, he asked the court to halt Verizon from giving the Select Committee his phone records according to The POLITICO. His attorneys claimed:

‘Dr. Gorka was not a member or leader of any organization that sponsored any events on January 6, and was not present at the Capitol on that day.’

In addition, they said the Select Committee had not asked Gorka to come freely before it or provide documents. He had also been asked to be one of the January 6 speakers, but then his talk was canceled.

The former adviser filed his lawsuit against the panel, its chairman, Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) according to CBS:

‘[T]he top committee staff in federal district court in Washington alleging the House select committee “abused its power by unlawfully” demanding his call records from Verizon, his cell phone provider. “‘

Gorka’s attorneys David Warrington and Michael Columbo of the Dhillon Law Group filed his lawsuit against the Select Committee and its Chair Representative Thompson. The attorneys also have been representing former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and other individuals in the Select Committee’s investigation. Gorka’s attorneys call him an “adverse political journalist.”

The Hungarian-born Gorka was just the last in a long string of other Committee lawsuits. Those included former White House National Security Advisor (NSA) Michael Flynn,  Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, lawyer John Eastman, and the founder of Stop the Steal Ali Alexander, plus many others in and around the January 6 failed coup. Then, there were:

‘[T]wo Oath Keepers charged with conspiring to halt Congress’ certification of the 2020 election also sued to block their phone records from reaching congressional investigators, [and even] former President Donald Trump.’

Trump also sued the National Archives to try to halt the Select Committee from releasing his White House records. Thus far, the Supreme Court has not yet decided whether to take Trump’s case.
