The widely used cable provider DirecTV has revealed that it does not intend to continue carrying content from the far-right outlet known as One America News after the conspiracy-peddling fringe network’s contract ends in April. One America News is an ardent institutional supporter of former President Trump, and it has consistently promoted groundless conspiracy theories about topics ranging from the 2020 presidential election to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, One America News and its so-called sister channel, A Wealth of Entertainment, will become no longer available through DirecTV in the near future.

A DirecTV spokesperson confirmed to The Washington Post that the company “informed Herring Networks [which owns One America News] that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires.” Former President Trump himself has noticed the network — in one particularly infamous example, Trump cited the outlet in a tweet claiming that millions of his votes had been somehow deleted across the country. No legitimate evidence has ever emerged indicating that such was actually the case. Now, One America News is the target of a hefty selection of defamation litigation connected to its promotion of lies about the election.

Dominion Voting Systems, an election technology company that has been the subject of pro-Trump conspiracy theories about the election, is seeking some $1.7 billion in damages with a lawsuit against the network. One America News was also targeted in a defamation case filed by Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, who served as election workers in Georgia in the 2020 presidential election cycle. Both women were alleged to have been involved in carrying out the imaginary rigging of the election — and they faced serious threats in the wake of these lies. On January 6, 2021, a group of Trump supporters apparently surrounded Freeman’s home, which she’d just recently fled amid the deluge of harassment. At another point, someone showed up at Moss’s grandmother’s house, saying they were there to make a “citizen’s arrest” connected to the imaginary fraud.

Meanwhile, One America News has also been targeted by a defamation lawsuit from the election technology company known as Smartmatic, which was also alleged — without any legitimate supporting evidence — to have been involved in the non-existent rigging of the election. As for the DirecTV relationship coming to an end, The Washington Post notes that in 2020, an accountant for One America News “reported… that 90 percent of the channel’s revenue in the previous year stemmed from subscriber fees paid by DirecTV and other AT&T-owned platforms.” (DirecTV has since separated from AT&T, although the latter still owns a solid majority of it.)
