Many of us are thinking about the efforts to pass two vitally important voting rights bills. It appears that these bills have hit a brick wall called Senators Joe Manchin (D-KY) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). But we are reminded that “voting rights takes perseverance,” as President Barack Obama said in his tweet on Martin Luther King (MLK) Day.

President Obama reminded us of Dr. King’s words and gave us hope:

‘There are no broad highways to lead us easily and inevitably to quick solutions.’

Martin Luther King said, “We must keep going.” We never know when the wall that stands between us and saving our democracy will give. Then, we will continue through to our end goal of equality and fairness. President Obama tweeted, honoring MLK’s message on this difficult day. And our former president added a message of his own, that “action forged in faith” will carry us through:

‘With the King family marching today, we remember that the fight for voting rights takes perseverance. As Dr. King said, “There are no broad highways to lead us easily and inevitably to quick solutions. We must keep going.” May we honor his memory through action forged in faith.’
