Raphael Warnock Calls Out GOP’s Phony Quotes On MLK Day

On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, voting rights are once again up for debate. Lawmakers who refuse take the threat to democracy seriously are now pretending to care about MLK and Rev. Sen. Rapael Warnock (D-GA) wasn’t having it.  Warnock is not only calling out his own colleagues – Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, but all 50 Republican senators, as well. While Manchin and Sinema have been a focus of attention with their professed support of the voting rights act and their refusal to eliminate the filibuster to preserve the right to vote, but not one Republican senator, and notably none of those who went along with the Big Lie, the one that says Donald Trump was cheated out of an election win in 2020, are willing to sign on.

As long-standing traditions like mail-in voting, Sunday voting, early voting, and representative districts where people are allowed to choose candidates who best represent the people in their communities are all on the chopping block in states like Georgia and Texas. Georgia famously went blue in 2016, voting in President Joe Biden, Sen. Raphael Warnock, and Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA). Texas was too close for GOP comfort to giving its massive number of electoral college votes to a Democrat. Those facts are not coincidental.

Twitter was quick to respond to the Georgia senator who preaches at Dr. King’s church. Read some of their comments below:
