Sen. Kyrsten Sinema won her seat in 2018 by only three points and was helped by Latino voters, 80 percent of whom vote blue, and many of whom campaigned door to door for Sinema and raised money for her campaign. There is no chance that will happen again in 2024 when Sinema’s Senate seat is up for grabs once again.

Thanks to Sinema’s tearful refusal to carve out the filibuster in order to pass legislation to protect the sacred right to vote in the United States, Voto Latino is pledging to spend six figures to oust Sinema in her next primary race. Voto Latino’s Maria Teresa Kumar told AZ Central that “the people of Arizona deserve a Senator willing to fight for democracy and protect the sanctity of every Americans’ vote.” A Democratic win in Arizona, where Latinos make up 1,188,000 of the state’s 5,042,000 eligible voters, is all but impossible without Latino support.

According to AZ Central:

‘Voto Latino, just like the influential EMILY’s List and others who recently came out against Sinema, isn’t bluffing.

‘It has set up the adiossinema.org website to raise money and remind Arizonans that the first-term senator has blocked everything from voting rights to increasing the minimum hourly wage to $15 to pandemic relief for undocumented immigrants.’

Many Democratic voters on Twitter were happy to hear the news and welcomed the efforts by Voto Latino to get rid of the controversial Sinema, who curtsied after voting against raising the minimum wage and refused to protect the right to vote. Others felt that efforts should be focused on retaining Sen. Mark Kelly’s seat in Arizona, which is up for grabs in 2022. Read some of their comments below:
