After the first impeachment of Donald Trump, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said that she believed he wouldn’t do anything illegal or unconstitutional again because impeachment is “a pretty big lesson.” The truth is that Trump learned nothing from that process, which is why he was then impeached a second time.
Trump uses language he knows caused the Jan 6 violence; suggests he’d pardon the Jan 6 defendants, some of whom have been charged with seditious conspiracy; threatens prosecutors; and admits he was attempting to overturn the election.
He’d do it all again if given the chance.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WI), one of only two Republican lawmakers on the January 6 Select Committee along with Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), called out Trump’s recent, terrifying words in a statement and in his latest rally in Texas. Trump showed that he has absolutely learned nothing since Jan. 6 despite the deaths of two of his supporters along with four Capitol Police officers, numerous indictments and the sentencing of multiple Trump-supporting insurrectionists, and a second impeachment.
At the rally in Texas, Trump tried to do what he did in office, lure his cronies into covering for him with the promise of a pardon. Of course, Trump would have to win reelection first, so this may not be as successful a tactic this time.
‘If I run, and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly. And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons, because they are being treated so unfairly.’
He also admitted in a statement he released that his intention was not to root out election fraud or keep the voting fair. He intended, in no uncertain terms, to overturn the presidential election. The January 6 insurrection he incited was an attempt to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to unlawfully declare the election in Trump’s favor.

Most terrifying, however, were his statements at his rally calling on his supporters to “protest” in an even bigger way than they did on Jan. 6 everywhere Trump is facing criminal charges, including Atlanta, GA, where he’s being investigated for trying to pressure Secretary Brad Raffensberger to “find” enough votes for Trump to win the state, in New York, where he and his children are being investigated for tax and bank fraud, and in Washington, D.C., where he’s being investigated for a seditious conspiracy. Laughably, he insisted these investigations are just “racist” and “radical.”
‘If these radical, vicious, racist prosecutors do anything wrong or illegal, I hope we are going to have in this country the biggest protest we have ever had in Washington DC, in New York, in Atlanta and elsewhere because our country and our elections are corrupt.’
Cheney is right. Given half a chance, Donald Trump will not only attempt these same types of crimes, but he’ll do worse in retaliation against those who tried in any way to uphold the law.
