Donald Trump bragged on the morning he received political hostages that the televised reception would be the highest rated show in the early morning hours. Clearly, ratings are a big deal to Trump, who worked as a reality TV competition show host prior to being elected president.

Trump is sure to be disappointed, then, over an interview he gave on Newsmax, a small network that has grown along with Trump’s descent into battiness over the 2020 presidential election. The network touted an interview with Trump on Friday, expecting big ratings, or at least big ratings for Newsmax. Instead, Trump didn’t even beat the midday shows’ ratings.
According to The Daily Beast:
‘Despite the network relentlessly hyping Trump’s Tuesday night chat with anchor Rob Schmitt, the 10 p.m. ET airing only placed fifth on the little-watched channel in total viewers and eighth in the key advertising demographic. Not only did Rob Schmitt Tonight’s 220,000 viewers place behind other evening shows such as Stinchfield and Greg Kelly Reports, and finish fourth for its time slot in cable news, but it also trailed behind the network’s mid-afternoon fare, such as the 4 p.m. show hosted by ex-Fox News host Eric Bolling.’
It is becoming clearer all the time that Trump’s grip on the Republican Party, and his relevance for Americans in general, is slipping. Candidates Trump has endorsed, particularly those who present primary challenges to well-known lawmakers who have dared to disagree with him, are losing the fundraising race. Fewer people are showing up at his rallies, and even interviews on the most right-wing of all right-wing networks can’t get ratings for interviews with the twice-impeached ex-president who lost the popular vote twice.
