The same senator from Florida who was once believed to be destined to be the “savior” of the Republican Party seems to have fallen right in line with Donald Trump’s manipulation and complete takeover of the GOP. Sen. Marco Rubio appeared on Face the Nation on Sunday to push the idea that the Jan. 6 Commission isn’t about investigating Trump’s incitement of the insurrection at the Capitol Building at all; it’s nothing more than an attempted partisan takedown of the GOP. The fact that two members of the GOP, one whose family has a long legacy in the party, doesn’t seem to matter in the face of hyperbole and desperation.

Rubio, from the same party as the one that investigated the attack in Benghazi a total of 10 separate times, each investigation led by Republican lawmakers, who continued to probe even as each of them folded with the conclusion that nothing criminal had taken place, is now complaining about partisan investigations. This time, unlike the Benghazi attacks, there is actual evidence of Republican involvement in the incident while the Benghazi investigations turned up nothing of the sort. Rubio still managed with a straight face, however, to complain.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who serves on the Jan. 6 Commission despite his party’s opposition to it, reminded Rubio in a tweet responding to his complaints that the real embarrassment is the GOP itself, censuring members who dare to disagree with the party leader and stripping them of committee assignments.
