Allen Weisselberg is very loyal to the Trump family. He came to work with Donald Trump’s father and just never left. That eventually led to some very dark times for the Trump Company chief financial officer (CFO). Now, he will have to testify in court.
Prosecutors discovered “a tranche of evidence in the basement of a coconspirator in the Trump Organization tax fraud case.” As a result, according to The Vanity Fair:
‘[Weisselberg was] charged with 15 felony counts including criminal tax fraud, grand larceny, falsifying business records, and scheming to defraud the government.’
Judge Yvonne Williams has ordered him to testify in a “very limited” deposition about the Trump Organization, which has been under investigation for tax fraud, nonpayments, and other issues. For example, Judge Williams noted a Lowes Maison Hotel bill for rooms booked by the ex-president’s reelection committee in 2017 but it was never paid by Trump. Instead the ex-president had a “brilliant” idea.
The way the unpaid hotel bill unraveled, according to the prosecutors in this case was that The Trump Organization reserved a block of rooms at downtown, D.C. Loews Madison Hotel. For some reason, a minimum of 13 individuals did not show. So Trump’s company denied they owed the $49,358 bill. The well-known dodger of all sorts of bills, such as attorney fees, skipped out on a credit collection agency. In the end, the nonprofit presidential inaugural committee finally picked up the bill.
Judge Williams also honored the AG’s motion for the Trump attorneys to provide documents, which the eldest Trump son had read and argued against earlier. These documents will now be provided on a “limited document request basis.”
Trump’s attorneys had requested that the judge make allowances for the elderly man. Attorney Rebecca Woods said, according to Yahoo News:
‘He seems to have nothing to do with the [hotel], they just seem to want to depose Mr. Weisselberg…for I don’t know what reason.’
The AG’s office claimed this was just one of many examples of how the father and children misused the Presidential Inauguration Committee (PIC). Another instance occurred when the Inaugural Committee paid over a million dollars to reserve “event space” at the Trump Hotel during the 2017 inauguration.
The D.C attorney general’s office said in a filing last year:
‘The Trump Organization was liable for the invoiced charge. The [Inaugural Committee’s] payment of the invoice was unfair, unreasonable, and unjustified, and ultimately conferred [an] improper private benefit to the Trump Organization.’
Weisselberg’s former daughter-in-law wrote about Ivanka’s “willful ignorance.” She had been deposed by the U.S. A.G. Karl Racine. And she claimed “willful ignorance” over who Weisselberg was, according to The Haaretz:
‘Question: “Who is Allen Weisselberg?”
Ivanka: “I don’t know what his exact job title is.”
Really?!!
She was an SVP (senior vice president) of the Trump Organization but didn’t know the CFO?!!
Yeah! Right…’
Given how large the treasure trove of documents, Williams did say they were at the beginning of discovery materials. The judge set the trial for September 26, 2022.
The family misused the Trump Foundation so badly that they were ordered to shut its door. And none of them can ever have a nonprofit again. For one example, Donald Trump paid his son’s Boy Scout fees out of it.
