Is it any surprise that Donald Trump may be in legal trouble again? His new Truth Social, a Twitter ripoff, apparently stole their logo from a company named Trailar.

The ex-president just unveiled the social media app for iPhone users this week. But the logo for Donald Trump’s new social media app Truth Social featured a broken “T” on a blue background. too. The United Kingdom shipping and analytics company logo was almost identical, The Business Insider reported:

‘Trailar fits solar panels to trucks and other large vehicles, and provides data analytics to the trucking industry.’

The trucking and analytics company tweeted:

‘Great to see Donald Trump supporting a growing sustainability business! Maybe ask next time?@AldiUK Don’t happen to have the number for your legal team on you? 😉’

Trailar’s marketing director Matthew Summers did confirm that legal action could be a real possibility. He  said, according to The Daily Beast: ”

‘We are now seeking legal advice to understand next steps and options available to protect our brand.’

Trump was dumped by Twitter after his January 6 insurrection. Still, Trailar tweeted him, his wife, and two eldest children with British good manners.

Professor of intellectual property law at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada Carys Craig offered this explanation, The Newsweek Magazine reported:

  • ‘Trump never attempted to market the app as being related to Twitter
  • A similar design can be passed off as fair competition.
  • Truth Social has probably not copied any of Twitter’s underlying software code
  • The app has not mimicked Twitter “phrases or imagery highly associated with the platform.” He used “truths” instead of “tweets:”

‘Any of the functional features of the user interface or common and unoriginal elements—scrolling and commenting functions, likes, shares, reaction buttons—will not be protected by copyright, so these can be freely copied.’

Craig continued saying Trump was “walking a fine line:”

‘In short, it sounds as though they are walking a fine line. There could potentially be liability if the interface is so similar that it is a substantial reproduction of Twitter’s original interface or if consumer confusion is likely. In the absence of any misrepresentation or confusion, however, copying the functional, common, or unoriginal features from the Twitter interface is fair game.’

All of the major social media platforms removed Trump after he set up the January 6 failed coup. They also included Facebook and YouTube. Twitter’s suspension was permanent, because the ex-president was at “risk of further incitement to violence.” Take this video released on January 6 where he said to the insurrections:

‘Go home. We love you. You’re very special.’
