Pelosi Taunts Trump After Jan 6 Committee Obtains His Private Docs

Today, The Supreme Court blocked Donald Trump’s lawsuit to keep his records away from January 6 investigators. SCOTUS refused to even hear his case. Although Trump claims three justices, the court could not find its way around something so egregious.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) issued a statement calling out Trump after the Supreme Court turned down his request. She said “no one is above the law:”

‘Today, the Supreme Court made resoundingly clear that no one is above the law – not even a former president who incited a deadly insurrection.  By again rejecting the former president’s attempts to hide documents related to January 6th, the Court’s decision is a victory for the truth, for the rule of law and for the American people.’

The court denied the former president’s emergency request to halt the National Archives from handing his White House records from the Select Committee. The records included “schedules, call logs, emails. and other requested documents the committee claimed might shine some light on the January 6 failed coup, according to The Daily Beast.

Pelosi continued in her statement, calling Trump’s request an “unlawful and dangerous campaign to hide the truth:”

‘Reviewing these documents is essential to gaining a full picture of the events leading up to, during and after the January 6th attack on our Democracy.  Now that the Court has ended the former president’s unlawful and dangerous campaign to hide the truth from the American people, the House’s Select Committee to Investigate January 6th will continue its laser focus on finding the truth of that dark day and ensuring it never happens again.’

A lower federal appeals court ruled that Trump’s claim of executive privilege and other legal theories were patently absurd. This after our sitting President Joe Biden said “no” to invoking that privilege. The Select Committee’s work is on a short timeline.

In December, the National Archives discovered at least 15 boxes of Trump’s records at his Mar-a-Lago residence. Reports indicated that some of them were “Top Secret,” because retaining that worsened the ex’s crime. The former president’s attorneys asked to keep them in the archives.”

Archivist David Ferriero wrote a letter to the House Committee on Oversight and Reform about the boxes, NBC News reported:

‘NARA has identified items marked as classified national security information within the boxes.’

And the Supreme Court refused that request, too. It only took hours for the records to end up in the hands of the Select Committee members. Only two Republicans sit on this committee. The January 6 Committee Chair Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MI and Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) said the decision was:

‘[A] victory for the rule of law and American democracy.’

That places Trump in a very unfavorable light.
