The man who has a tattoo of Richard Nixon across his back is unhappy about the House January 6 Select Committee subpoenaing his phone records. So, he intends to sue on Thursday. Roger Stone was the one in videos walking around the Capitol area with his Oath Keepers bodyguard disciples on the morning of January 6, 2021.

He goes way back with Donald Trump, and it was no surprise that he sent a sleazy email asking for money to help his legal defense fund, according to The Mother Jones:

‘I just hung up with my lawyer. I instructed him to file a lawsuit against the January 6th Committee. It’s time that someone put an end to this fishing expedition and witch hunt.’

His email also had a copy of the subpoena on the fundraising email, where it requested his AT&T records. He noted that the subpoena wanted them “for November, December, and January.” It would have been nice to know which years.

Stone enhanced the big Trump lie that the election was stolen from him. The man accomplished this with his appearances at a number of Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rallies.

In addition, Stone raised money for “private security:”

‘[E]quipment for events in Washington, DC, on January 5 and 6 that preceded the storming of the Capitol. In addition, he received security from members of the Oath Keepers and socialized with members of Proud Boys. Both are far-right groups, some of whose members stormed the Capitol. Several of the Oath Keepers who guarded Stone in Washington and at earlier events in Florida have been charged with seditious conspiracy over their alleged roles in the insurrection.’

The Select Committee sent Stone a subpoena to appear before it in December, which he did. However, he used the Fifth Amendment to avoid answering any of the questions.

He claimed he was not in the Capitol when the failed coup occurred. But the January 6 Committee was more interested in his other activities such as planning for it. Of course, he had “no advance knowledge whatsoever of the illegal and tragic events of that day:”

‘While I have nothing to hide, it is obvious that this is a fishing expedition. It was obvious to me from the questions I was asked before the committee that the Democrats are desperate to find some charge—any charge—that would have the effect of eliminating President Donald Trump as a candidate in 2024.’

In 2019, Stone was arrested and convicted of lying to “Congress, obstructing Congress, and witness tampering.” He lied to the House Intelligence Committee about any links between WikiLeaks and the Trump 2016 campaign. As luck would have it, the ex-president pardoned Stone before the attack. Of course, that left him open to any crimes he may have committed related to January 6.

Many of those around Trump followed the same playbook after they were subpoenaed by the Select Committee by suing it. However, all they gained were delays and potential fundraising.

Stone profits by selling his endorsement, The Daily Beast reported:

When news broke that the Department of Justice (DOJ) was investigating Trump supporter Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Roger Stone jumped in to offer his “strategic campaign consulting,” aka endorsement for $20,000. Gaetz was charged with allegedly sex trafficking a minor.
