Ukrainian civilians have continued to participate in their country’s push-back against Russian attackers as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the smaller country has proceeded. Among other examples of the Ukrainian defense against Russian personnel, video footage has circulated of a Ukrainian throwing a Molotov cocktail out of a moving car at a nearby Russian military vehicle. Watch that below:

Unfortunately, the cocktail was thrown carelessly and it injured a hand. Please be more careful. pic.twitter.com/1IoPh6o2j1

Last Friday, The Washington Post reported how “Roughly 18,000 weapons have already been distributed in the Kyiv region, according to the government. At the country’s borders, Ukrainian guards have been stopping vehicles, looking for men between the ages of 18 and 60 who can help in the fight.” Ukraine has an entity called the Territorial Defense Forces, which feature civilian participants in the fight against Russian aggression. Regarding the Territorial Defense Forces, POLITICO reported on February 13 — before Russia launched its full-fledged invasion — that the “goal is to form a core of 10,000 military professionals by March, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said at a recent briefing. Initially, that core was expected to lead 130,000 civilian reservists. But on Friday, as the threat of war appeared increasingly imminent, Ukraine’s commander in chief said the force was now seeking 1.5 to 2 million citizens willing to defend their homes, families and country.” Many Ukrainians have signed up, and recruits were slated to “receive basic combat training, but many are expected to simply apply whatever talents they might have from their daily life,” POLITICO added.
