Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) served as a pilot in the Air National Guard. He is also one of two Republican representatives on the House January 6 Select Committee. As one of the real American heroes, he knows what he is talking about when he said it was time for the “No-fly zone.”
Ukraine has been begging for a “No-fly zone” to prevent Russia’s air attacks. Ukrainians can handle the ground war, but they cannot go up against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s planes.
Kinzinger flew the RC-26B, which is a fixed-wing Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) plane that the Air National Guard pilots use:
‘This is a good moment to renew my call for a no fly zone, at the invitation of the Ukraine government. I fear if this continues, we will have to intervene in a bigger way.’
Before he became a representative:
‘[I] served in the Air Force in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom…and he was among the first members of Congress to call for airstrikes against ISIS. He continues to focus on eradicating this threat with a comprehensive and detailed strategy.’
He is from the Sixteenth District, which is home to “four nuclear power plants (the most of any district in America),” according to his Congressional site. So he knows a thing or two about nuclear security, as the Ukraine War rages on with the Putin at the helm.
Representative Kinzinger understands what being a hero means:
‘In 2007, he received the United States Air Force Airman’s Medal for saving the life of a young woman who was being violently attacked. He wrestled the knife away from the attacker and pinned him to the ground until the police arrived. He was also awarded the National Guard’s Valley Forge Cross for Heroism and was selected as the Southeastern Wisconsin American Red Cross Hero of the Year.’
Maybe Congress and President Joe Biden should listen to him. Kinzinger thinks that war with Russia might be inevitable. We would have the advantage now when fewer people would die. It looks as if we will find out.
