President Joe Biden hesitated as he looked at the Republican side of the House, then he continued his State of the Union speech. Vice-President Kamala Harris and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) exchanged a glance then a few whispered words. What had caused these surprising actions? Not-so-Grand Old Party members acting like seventh-grader bullies.
It seemed that the only reason Representatives Lauren Boebert (CO) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) came to the president’s State of the Union address was to interrupt and harass him. Clearly, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had no control of the House, even though that has been his job description.
Speaker Pelosi had an intense reaction. She was obviously put out by their breaches of decorum. Then when she was asked at a press conference about Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) comments, Pelosi commented that she agreed with the senator’s words “Shut up,” according to MSNBC.
‘Let me just say this. I agree with what Sen. Lindsey Graham said: “Shut up.” That’s what he said to them. I think they should just shut up.’
Boebert yelled out during the State of the Union referring to the 13 military members who died at the end of the Afghanistan war:
‘A cancer that would put them in a flag-draped coffin. You put them in, 13 of them!’
Both Boebert and Greene chanted “Build the Wall!” as POTUS talked about border security. Then the Colorado representative handed out more abuse by tweeting this later that night:
‘When Biden said flag draped coffins I couldn’t stay silent. I told him directly he did it. He put 13 in there. Our heroic servicemen and women deserve so much better.’
Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) yelled out two words during one of President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address. He said in a statement at the time The Associated Press reported:
‘This evening, I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.’
In a rare rebuke, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) spoke to Fox News Radio the following day:
‘We act that way in the Senate. I don’t normally give the House advice. But it seems to me, a respectful response to the State of the Union would be the norm.’
Worst of all, Boebert caused members of both parties to gasp when she stepped way over the line inserting her words into President Biden’s spoken grief over his own soldier son. He believed that Beau Biden’s cancer was caused by the toxic burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan next to their housing.

Even so, the House formally rebuked him. It read:
‘[T]he conduct of the Representative from South Carolina was a breach of decorum and degraded the proceedings of the joint session, to the discredit of the House.’
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) continued:
‘[C]ivil behavior is a good idea in Congress.’
