As the country debates what should be done about a Supreme Court justice whose wife supported an attack on the U.S. government, it’s important to make one thing perfectly clear: Ginni Thomas can be just as crazy as she wants to be. She can be a Qanon supporter who believes that the entire Biden family should be tried on a barge off the coast of Guatanemo Bay in front of a military tribunal and detained alongside suspected terrorists if she wants to. That’s her right as an American and a private citizen.
Justice Clarence Thomas, however, does not have the right to allow his wife’s idiocy to compromise his ability to be an impartial justice in cases involving the 2020 election in order to hide his wife’s involvement in the insurrection. It’s unethical and potentially impeachable.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) pointed out that fact on ABC’s This Week, saying during an interview that Thomas should recuse himself from all cases tried before the Supreme Court involving the 2020 elections and tied to the investigation of the January 6, 2021 insurrection because he is compromised. He was the lone no vote on sending records from the January 6 insurrection to the investigative congressional committee; some of those records were of texts from his wife to Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows.
‘You have the wife of a sitting Supreme Court justice advocating for an insurrection, advocating for overturning a legal election to the sitting president’s chief of staff and she also knows this election, these cases, are going to come before her husband. This is a textbook case for removing him, recusing him from these decisions. All I hear is silence from the Supreme Court right now and that better change in the coming week because every other federal judge in the country except Supreme Court justices would have a guidance from ethics rules that says you got to recuse himself.’
