Russian President Vladimir Putin has a nasty way of getting rid of those who oppose him. Journalists die on the street, shot at his command. His presidential opponent Alexei Navalny sits in federal prison after barely surviving a Novichok nerve agent poison attack, which is a Putin favorite. Now one oligarch and two top-level Ukrainian negotiators have complained of poison-like symptoms, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported.

The oligarch billionaire Roman Abramovich had been negotiating with the Ukrainians to end the war. Crimean Tatar lawmaker Rustem Umerov was one of the Ukrainian negotiators.

When these two members of the Ukrainian peacemaker team fell victim to the poisoning symptoms, according to The Business Insider, they experienced peeling skin on their faces and hands, red eyes, and painful watering eyes. Abramovich even lost his sight for several hours.

The three men “consumed only chocolate and water in the hours before the symptoms appeared.” A fourth person who did the same did not develop symptoms

Abramovich and the Ukrainian negotiators, including Mykhailo Podolyak, have since improved from their scare, and their lives are not in danger, WSJ reported.
