Since being elected, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been a favorite punching bag of Fox News hosts like Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity, as has Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Contributors on the “news” network have called Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist who works with sex trafficking rings and Pelosi has been referred to as a “horrible, vindictive, nasty person” by Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

Is it any wonder, then, that the two receive regular death threats from twisted people who believe the two women are truly evil and deserve to die?

60-year-old Florida man Paul Vernon Hoeffer was arrested after spending 2019 and 2020 making repeated threatening phone calls to the two representatives and was sentenced on Friday. The FBI tracked him down after his initial calls to Pelosi, who he had threatened by saying he would cut off her head, and warned him to stop. However, he then began making additional phone calls to Ocasio-Cortez.

According to NBC News:

‘Pelosi, D-Calif., was his first target, according to court filings. In one call to her office, he said he would “come a long, long way to rattle her head with bullets” if she doesn’t resign. In another, he threatened to cut her head off “jihadist-style.”‘

Although prosecutors requested a lengthy sentenced to communicate to others the seriousness of the crime, attorneys for Hoeffer told the judge that their client had no prior offenses and had been diagnosed with cancer. While the federal guidelines for Hoeffer’s crime include a sentence of around three years in prison, the judge sentenced him to 18 months, or one and a half years.

‘He pleaded guilty to three counts of interstate transmission of threats to kidnap or injure, and the federal sentencing guideline range was between 33 and 41 months in prison.’

Attorneys also represented Hoeffer as a hardworking man who was simply caught up in a divisive political moment, while prosecutors reminded the judge that the man was not so hardworking as to have no spare time to call women and threaten to decapitate them.

‘Defendant, someone who represents himself as gainfully employed, a hardworking individual with various responsibilities in life, found time to call women to tell them he was going to shoot them in the head, or cut their heads off, and that they were going to die. And he did not do it once, but multiple times on multiple days.’
