Republican Liz Cheney (R-WY) used to be a typical Republican but not anymore. She did not change. The political world around her was fertilized, planted, and harvested so that the crop that now sits around Donald Trump is filled with weeds. Cheney was absolute in her understanding that what Trump did was “unlawful.”
Yet he continued moving forward with full force. Cheney is the vice-chair of the House January 6 Select Committee, so she should know.
Cheney joined CNN’s State of the Union With Jake Tapper and said, according to CNN:
‘I think what we have seen is a massive and well-organized and well-planned effort that used multiple tools to try to overturn an election.’
Then, she pulled up The New York Times article telling the world that the Select Committee has been divided over whether to refer the ex-president to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for “criminal contempt.” Cheney disagreed:
‘There’s not really a dispute on the committee. Issues we’re addressing and we’ll continue to work together to do so. I wouldn’t characterize there being a dispute on the committee. I think it is the single most collaborative committee on which I’ve ever served.’
Then when the question about Trump’s elder daughter Ivanka Trump’s testimony before the Select Committee arose, the Wyoming Republican responded in traditional attorney-speak. This was all she had to say about the daughter’s eight-hour testimony:
‘[H]er testimony was helpful.’
Chair of the Select Committee Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MI) spoke to reporters after she testified. He responded, The Time Magazine reported.
‘[S]he’s answering questions. I mean, not in a broad, chatty term, but she’s answering questions.’
It will not be long before the public will get to sit in on the televised hearings in front row seats.
