In spite of all the negative rhetoric about her, Liz Cheney has been hauling in donations. Cheney brought in $2.94 million in the first quarter of 2022 alone. That moves her haul up to $10 million and $6.8 in cash remaining.
Compare that to the first quarter of last year when Cheney brought in a substantial:
- ‘$1.5 million – Quarter One
- $1.9 million – Quarter Two
- $1.7 million – Quarter Three
- $2.5 million – Quarter Four’
Since Hageman announced her run for Cheney’s seat, she has raised approximately $745,000 in the third and fourth quarters of 2021, substantially less than her opponent.
Given how poorly the candidate’s fundraising has been unfolding, over 100 members of the Trump Party held a fundraiser in her honor. And yes, McCarthy was there, too.
This primary skirmish between Cheney and her former adviser will be high on the GOP’s list of must-see-TV this upcoming August 16. The Republicans see it as an early indicator of how the midterm elections will go.
Apparently, Cheney has the full support of Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) and President George W. Bush. In addition to those endorsements, her dad Dick Cheney was vice president to President Bush.
A traditional conservative Republican, Cheney disavowed Trump’s lies that President Biden stole the election from him. The Wyoming representative also voted to impeach Trump after the January 6, 2021 storming of our Capitol Building.
A year ago, the House Republicans were so upset with Cheney that they voted her off of her conference chair positions.
Cheney was the first Republican House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) accepted on the House’s January 6 Select Committee. McCarthy had filled the seats with people who were actually involved in the attempted overthrow of our American government. The second Republican seated on the Select Committee was Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL).
The POLITICO reported on Cheney’s outstanding fundraising abilities, too:
‘The Wyoming Republican is fighting off a serious challenge from Harriet Hageman, a Cheyenne attorney, and the Aug. 16 primary has turned into the most important and closely watched contest between the MAGA and traditional wings of the GOP.’
