Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared at a debate Sunday to take on five other individuals vying for the seat she currently holds.
On February 4, 2021, the House of Representatives voted 230-199 in favor of removing her from her assigned committees. There were even 11 members of the GOP who voted with the Democrats. Nor did Greene pass any legislation. Candidate Seth Synstelien took on Greene over that weak government record.
Synstelien questioned her about buying contractor stock, NPR reported:
‘We’re all here because we have concerns about the seat. See, you bought contractor stock before railing against profitable wars. Your words and actions are consistently inconsistent. No bill you’ve authored has passed and you have no committee power to advocate for this district.’
Then, he dove right into her lack of committees, “explain how you plan to get it done:”
‘Without resorting to rhetoric about Democrat boogeymen, Biden and the woke left, answer this. Can you tell us one or two specific objectives that affect our wallets that you can actually pass and explain how you plan to get it done without being guaranteed a committee assignment?’
She responded:
‘Thank you for that question, Seth. And I know this is your first time being a candidate as well.’
Greene said that she did not know she had bought the defense stock prior to seeing it in the newspaper. She tried to turn against the Democratic Party:
‘Now, here’s what we have to do. You have to understand and remember. Democrats are in control in Washington right now. Republicans aren’t getting anything done — even the Republicans on committees aren’t getting anything done. And if they were, you wouldn’t see the radical destruction of America going on right now, our wide-open borders. We are having inflation out of control and we are no longer energy independent as Americans.’
Greene added that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) would give her “great committee assignments” when the Republicans took back the House, assuming that they would:
‘So what I look forward to doing is when we take back the House, I’ll have great committee assignments. Kevin McCarthy and leadership have already promised them to me. And we look forward to holding Democrats accountable for all the corruption and horrible things they’ve done in our country.’
Synstelien came back saying Greene was gambling on something that was not a sure bet, “We’re still not clear on who is acting on the district’s behalf:”
‘That’s too big an if, voting for Ms. Greene is a gamble as she’s not guaranteed committee power. She’s not even accountable for her own tweets or her staff’s. We’re still not clear on who is acting on the district’s behalf. So, how can anyone expect her to bring accountability to Washington?’
Then, he finished, noting that all that she had going for her was riling up people “against an invisible enemy:”
‘Her only leadership trait right now is rallying people against an enemy. And little to none of what she just said encourages business in our district or fights out-of-control inflation.’
Take a look at the video of Greene’s and Synstelien’s interaction:
On Face The Nation, her fellow representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)) whittled her down to size, too. He said that “when [she] is confronted, she’s all of a sudden a victim.”
