A common refrain from the Republican Party is that liberals are the “elite” and have no policies that help working families. That’s because, of course, student loan debt, healthcare, parental leave, and the rights for women to make decisions about her own body doesn’t affect working families at all.
Except it really, really does.
To celebrate mothers, we should make sure mothers and their children have health care.
To celebrate mothers, we should offer paid parental leave and paid sick leave.
To celebrate mothers, we should make quality child care affordable for everyone.

Secretary Hillary Clinton tweeted about how to truly honor mothers on Mother’s Day – meeting their needs and easing the burden on working class families. Clinton talked about all the ways that women struggle and how to address them.
For all the talk from lawmakers insisting that they believe in the institution of the family and preserving family values, they don’t seem to focus much on helping American families at all. While Democrats have worked for things like affordable childcare and healthcare, the GOP has given massive tax breaks for the rich, banned abortions, and tried twice to repeal the legislation that gave millions of people in America health insurance while banning books and yelling about critical race theory, which is taught in no classrooms in high school..
It seems the party detached from working class America is the party of family values, the party that swears its opposition to same sex marriage is about preserving the family. When faced with a need to actually help one of those families, the GOP are the first to refuse signing onto any policy that would actually help them.
Twitter had a lot to say about Clinton’s Mother’s Day message. Read some of their thoughts below:
