“Donald Trump’s enablers were – and remain – a clear and present danger to American democracy,” The Lincoln Project proclaimed Tuesday in a caption on Twitter alongside a video exposing Trump for his guilt connected to last year’s attack on the Capitol.

The video intersperses footage of Trump speaking with violent moments from January 6, highlighting the direct connection between the two — although the connection doesn’t end there. It’s not just Trump’s speech to a rally in D.C. preceding the breach that served as incitement. He also spent months promoting the lie of a stolen election — despite, the January 6 committee in the House has highlighted, consistent pushback from certain figures around him. And more recently, Trump continues to try and essentially explain away the Capitol riot. “Donald Trump and his allies and supporters are a clear and present danger to American democracy,” Judge J. Michael Luttig also says in the Lincoln Project video, which shows footage from recent public testimony Luttig gave before the riot panel. Watch below:

“Why won’t they discuss the massive voter fraud and irregularities that took place in the Election, the reason Jan 6 happened?” Trump said on Truth Social this Tuesday, referring to the riot committee in the House. In other words, it sounds as though he basically thinks the rioters — no matter the destruction, deaths, and threats of further violence — had a point. Trump has also indicated he’d be interested in potentially pardoning participants in the Capitol riot if he wins the presidency again. “And if I become president someday, if I decide to do it, I will be looking at them very, very seriously for pardons, very, very seriously,” Trump said in reference to the rioters. “The targeting and repression that is now being directed against Republicans and conservatives is totally unprecedented. In American history, this has never happened before,” Trump added. That’s not — according to any remotely reasonable estimation — what’s happening, but Trump is helping cultivate the kind of pathological victim complex on the Right that could lead to another January 6.

The House committee investigating the Capitol riot was set to have another public hearing Tuesday afternoon, with witnesses including Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Wandrea ArShaye “Shaye” Moss, a former Georgia elections worker who was targeted by Trump for supposed involvement in imaginary election fraud. Amid threats she faced following her targeting, people even showed up at Moss’s grandmother’s house in hopes of making a so-called citizen’s arrest connected to the imaginary election fraud. The level of paranoia, delusion, and willingness to act on all of that held by some of these people on Trump’s side remain dangerous.
