On Friday, the Supreme Court did what no other court in American history has done: they have taken away a right that had been deemed constitutional. In fact, Roe v Wade was decided nearly 50 years ago and upheld by every Supreme Court who has heard a case whose purpose was to take that right away.

President Joe Biden, a Catholic who has long been a proponent of abortion rights as a woman’s right to make decisions over her own body, spoke out against the ruling after it was announced.
‘This is an extreme and dangerous path the court is now taking us on…It’s a sad day for the court and for the country. The health and life of women in this nation is now at risk.’
Today is a very solemn moment for the United States.
The Supreme Court expressly took away a Constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized. They simply took it away. That's never been done to a right that is so important to so many Americans.

Biden specifically pointed to Donald Trump as the man responsible for the Supreme Court’s decision, as the former president chose three of the six justices who voted to take away a woman’s right to bodily autonomy. Trump did promise during his campaign run that he would nominate only Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v Wade.
Biden pulled no punches in his response:
‘It was three justices, named by one president, Donald Trump, who were the core of today’s decision to upend the scales of justice and eliminate a fundamental right for women in this country.’
Twitter had a lot to say about the response by Biden and the ruling that prompted it. Read some of their comments below:
