Donald Trump is continuing to rage over the recent FBI raid of his southern Florida property known as Mar-a-Lago, which was connected to a Justice Department investigation into the handling of government records from Trump’s administration.

In an interview with Fox, Trump essentially sought to justify the antagonism and threats of violence from supporters of his towards federal law enforcement in the wake of the raid. “There is tremendous anger, like I’ve never seen before, over all of the scams, and this new one—years of scams and witch hunts, and now this,” Trump said. On his alternative social media platform known as Truth Social, Trump had more to say.

“Just left a large gathering of people and all they could talk about was the complete and total stranglehold that the Radical Left Democrats have over the DOJ & FBI,” he posted Sunday evening. “It shouldn’t be that way. Nobody goes after BLM, ANTIFA, or the rest, despite murder, beatings, and burning down large sections of cities, a very unfair double standard. They definitely won’t attack the home of a former Democrat President, nor should they. It is all so out of control, great simmering anger!” It’s just untrue that there’s no law enforcement interest in anybody ostensibly affiliated with those liberal and left-leaning movements who may commit a criminal act. It’s also untrue that “large sections of cities” were burned down by the groups’ members.

“America has never suffered this kind of ABUSE in Law Enforcement!” Trump added. “For the FBI to RAID the home of the 45 President of the United States, or any President for that matter, is totally unheard of and unthinkable. This Break In was a sneak attack on democracy (our Republic!), and was both unannounced and done at a time when the President was not even present. It was for political, not legal reasons, and our entire Country is angry, hurt, and greatly embarrassed by it. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Wouldn’t it be more concerning for democracy for a former president potentially involved in or connected to criminal acts to somehow automatically escape even the possibility of accountability? There’s simply no real-world evidence that there was some kind of political motive responsible for the raid. The legal reasoning for it is expounded upon in warrant materials, including potential violations of three specific pieces of federal law including the Espionage Act (which broadly covers national security-related issues).

In a Truth Social post from Monday, Trump claimed his passports were taken in the Mar-a-Lago raid. It’s not immediately what truth may underlie the former president’s allegation. “Wow! In the raid by the FBI of Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three Passports (one expired), along with everything else. This is an assault on a political opponent at a level never seen before in our Country. Third World!” Trump complained Monday. Why does Trump like comparing things he doesn’t like to “third world” conditions? Could it be more brazenly racist? It’s as though in Trump’s mind political corruption or even just the impression of it automatically suggests majority non-white countries. Trump uses the “third world” phrasing over and over and over.
