Ex-Trump Lawyer Forced To Testify Under Oath In Criminal Election Probe

The process of justice may be slow, but it is also inevitable. Nearly two years after Trump’s “legal team” began spreading lies about the 2020 election in a series of steps leading to the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol Building, they’re facing the consequences of their decisions.

One of the attorneys representing Donald Trump during the campaign for The Big Lie was Jenna Ellis, who spoke and wrote memos to officials in a number of states to encourage them to throw out votes and overturn the 2020 presidential election. Ellis has been subpoenaed to speak before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection but has yet to comply.

She will not be given that choice in Georgia, where a criminal investigation into Trump and his allies’ attempts to stage a coup is taking place. Judge Gregory Lammons of Colorado ruled on Wednesday that Ellis must testify in front of the investigation in Georgia led by DA Fani Willis or face legal consequences.

According to the Associated Press:

‘The investigation, prompted by a January 2021 phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, began early last year. During that call, Trump suggested Raffensperger could “find” the votes to overturn his narrow election loss in the state. It has become clear since the special grand jury was seated in May that the focus of the investigation extends well beyond that call.’

Ellis’s actions add up to nothing less than an attempted coup, although her knowledge of Trump’s involvement may work as a bargaining chip with prosecutors should she be charged with a crime related to illegally trying to interfere in an election. Of Ellis, Willis wrote in her petition that she was “part of a multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere.”

‘Ellis appeared with Giuliani at a Dec. 3, 2020, state Senate committee hearing at the Georgia Capitol during which false allegations of election fraud were made, Willis wrote. She also wrote at least two legal memos to Trump and his attorneys advising that then-Vice President Mike Pence should “disregard certified electoral college votes from Georgia and other purportedly ‘contested’ states” when Congress met to certify the election results on Jan. 6, 2021, the petition says.’

Ellis is suspected of having been a key member in Trump’s campaign to steal an election he lost by more than seven million votes. Others in Trump’s orbit are facing similar orders to testify, including members of the U.S. Senate who backed Trump’s actions leading up to January 6th.

‘Willis last month filed petitions with the judge overseeing the special grand jury seeking to compel testimony from seven Trump associates and advisers, including Ellis, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and former New York mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani. Because they don’t live in Georgia, she had to use a process that involves getting a judge in the state where they’re located to order them to appear before the special grand jury in Atlanta.’
