US District Court Stops Kari Lake’s AZ Voter Suppression Attempt

Since 2020, when Donald Trump lost the election to Joe Biden by seven million votes, he’s been spreading the Big Lie, and he’s had people grifting for votes willing to help him spread that lie. They, along with the twice-impeached ex-president who lost the popular vote twice and tried to stage a coup, have blamed every possible suspect they could think up for stealing Trump’s actual win: Democrats, Republican secretaries of state, election officials, election volunteers, Italy, the long-dead former president of Cuba, and electronic voting counting machines.

The claim that someone put rigged electronic voting machines into polling places to switch votes from Trump to Biden may have already cost at least one lawyer his license to practice law and others, along with Fox News, to be sued for billions of dollars. Trump’s denialisms, however, are winning Republican primaries over more qualified candidates, using the Big Lie tied to a number of conspiracy theories to drum up votes from Trump loyalists.

One such example is Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who won her primary early in August, and GOP secretary of state nominee Rep. Mark Finchem, who brought a lawsuit to court in an attempt to ban electronic voting machines, which they say interfered with Arizonians right to vote for their chosen candidate. One U.S. district court judge disagreed, saying that the argument presented lacked “standing” and were based in conjecture.

According to one local CBS affiliate in Arizona:

‘On Friday, Judge John J. Tuchi dismissed the lawsuit, saying that while the right to vote should be protected, Lake and Finchem “lack standing” and presented only “conjectural allegations.” The judge also referenced the Eleventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which bars individuals from filing lawsuits against states in federal court.’

Twitter was not at all surprised by news of the lawsuit’s dismissal, having seen a host of other, similar lawsuits claiming election fraud thrown out of court. Read some of their comments below:
