On Thursday, the ex-president blasted his former Vice President Mike Pence after the House passed a new bill to put a steel lock on any VP’s ability to affect election results. Donald Trump was furious on January 6, 2021 when Pence would not vote to discard certified election results from a number of states. And the House’s new bill, which was meant to halt another coup attempt, seemed to stir the coals of Trump’s rage.

The House’s new bill the Electoral Count Act made clear that the vice president’s role was strictly a ritual. So that avenue would no longer be available should Trump run again and be able to install another vice president.

The House bill passed with the aid of nine Republicans voting for it, 229-203,  according to The POLITICO’s source, The House Minutes. The ex-president posted an angry rant on his Truth Social platform questioning the validity of the House’s action. He wrote:

‘The House just passed a Bill which prohibits the Vice President from doing what all the “great’ Democrat & RINO legal scholars said he couldn’t do, “under any circumstances,” regarding sending election results back to State Legislatures. If the V.P. couldn’t do it, then why are they passing legislation saying he can’t do it. BECAUSE HE COULD HAVE DONE IT, and should have, based on large scale fraudulent election results. Would have been a different result.’

Former Trump attorney, John Eastman had been the architect of the ex-president’s attempt to steal the 2020 presidential election. They included a number of members of the ultra-conservative Federalist Society, the source of Trump’s extreme Supreme Court seats. These Constitutional experts believed Eastman’s suggestion would have been illegal, according to The Washington Post.

But the ex-POTUS was not finished with his rage explosion. He wrote, yelling in all capital letters:

 ‘REPUBLICAN SENATORS SHOULD VOTE NO!’

Both Republicans and Democrats were eager to head off another one of Trump’s failed hard coup. The new bill, the Presidential Election Reform Act (ECA) clarified the VP’s. role. In addition, the House closed another loophole showing the number of legislators needed to object to each state’s election results.

On January 6,  2021, the former president revved up his armed followers with a fiery speech, and then aimed them directly at the nation’s Capitol. Hours of hand-to-hand combat against the insurrectionists left 140 Capitol Police hurt with head injuries, missing fingers, and other grievous damage. Five members of the police died as a result of Trump’s attack.

Vice Chair of the House January 6 Select Committee Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) authored the bill’s wording, according to The Vanity Fair. She said:

‘This bill will prevent Congress from illegally choosing the president itself.’

‘January 6… was not “Democracy in action.” Our oath of office is to support and defend the Constitution, which provides the method by which we elect our president. Legal challenges are not improper, but Donald Trump’s refusal to abide by the rulings of the courts certainly was.’

Unfortunately, the ECA would not pass in this Senate, because there is a 50-50 split between the parties. Only a few pieces of legislation could pass under a majority vote. Most need a 60 percent majority. If Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer (D-NY) could hold the bill until after the November midterms, it would have a far great chance of succeeding.

The Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act against restrictive voting were killed by the Republicans in the Senate. Conversely, Progressive Democrats felt the ECA did not go far enough.
