Trump is mad at Jews. No, that’s not an exaggeration.
In a rant posted to his alternative social media site Truth Social this weekend, he complained about American Jews supposedly just not getting it when it comes to how much he has supposedly done for them. Although it’s obviously ridiculous, the Capitol riot and numerous other incidents have proven that there are many followers of the former president willing to turn some of his most ridiculous rhetoric into action. There are no doubt numerous individuals who have gone far enough into the Trump cult that they’d look at what Trump said and think he was making a good point.
“No President has done more for Israel than I have,” Trump said. “Somewhat surprisingly, however, our wonderful Evangelicals are far more appreciative of this than the people of the Jewish faith, especially those living in the U.S. Those living in Israel, though, are a different story – Highest approval rating in the World, could easily be P.M.! U.S. Jews have to get their act together and appreciate what they have in Israel – Before it is too late!” As anyone who has ever seen or heard of a Jewish person and actually cared to retain some of the info before them could attest, there is a lot more to being Jewish than Israel. Some Jews don’t even particularly support the Israeli government because of human rights concerns for Palestinians targeted by Israeli officials. Are they not Jewish enough for Trump’s liking? Does he think Jews need to be subservient to him as though he’s their lord and savior or something? Does he think he is a king?
Point is — none of the implications of what he is saying here are particularly promising regarding the prospect of Trump regaining the presidency. Broadly complaining about Jews and arbitrating who is or isn’t a sufficiently Jewish Jew — neither of these are the responsibilities of an ex-president under criminal investigation and known for his antagonistic treatment of marginalized groups and interest in using violence for political ambitions! Also, what did Trump mean by “Before it is too late!”? Is he raising the prospect of a threat against Israel? Jews? Hasn’t this country faced enough of his lunacy?
