Trump Has Terrified Sounding Meltdown John Durham’s Failure

Recently, Igor Danchenko — a former FBI informant who was charged in John Durham’s investigation of the Russia probe for supposedly lying to the agency — was acquitted by a jury. Predictably, Trump wasn’t thrilled.

Durham’s work has previously been touted in Trump’s corner as essentially a harbinger of revelations of a secretive conspiracy among prominent officials to undercut Trump and his campaign with the various elements and ramifications of the Russia investigation. Durham has proven no such thing. Amid this investigation, he has been involved in the prosecution for three criminal cases, including two that hinged on allegations of lying to federal investigators — a serious offense, but not one showing any kind of sweeping plan to go after Trump. A third case, in which the defendant pleaded guilty, concerned the deceptive alteration of email records. The affected email wasn’t central to the Russia investigation, and it’s not even clear it was central to the portion of the probe in which it was used: surveillance of past Trump ally Carter Page. Without the alteration, the surveillance might have still been approved, a judge noted.

In the Danchenko case, Durham was personally involved in delivering arguments in court. It didn’t work. Before the jury’s acquittal, the judge dismissed one of the charges of lying to the FBI, concluding Durham hadn’t made a sufficiently strong case. That charge covered an instance in which Danchenko said he hadn’t talked to a Clinton-tied Democratic operative about anything in the Steele dossier, for which Danchenko was a source. He had actually emailed with the operative — which isn’t literally the same as talking, a difference that could be investigatively relevant.

“The disgraceful judicial system was on full display yet again with the Danchenko Verdict,” Trump proclaimed. “Durham could not get a fair shake in the Swamp of biased and partisan juries, where you are told that no Republican based or supported case can be won no matter how good it is, & judges that are so biased, unfair and angry that it is literally dangerous to be in court! I was told by many that Durham’s case was a great one but he has ZERO chance of winning in “that Court.” Sorry Justice Roberts, but so true!” He is seemingly referencing past criticism from U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Roberts of contentions about supposedly political bias in the judiciary.
