Jamie Raskin Rallies Americans Against Election-Denying GOP

Numerous candidates who have cast aspersions on the electoral process in the United States are on the ballot this year, and if successful, some of them could end up in key positions controlling elections and how results are handled in coming years.

In Wisconsin, for instance, GOP pick for governor Tim Michels has refused to commit to certifying the results of the 2024 presidential election if he wins, and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) wouldn’t commit to accepting the results this year. The Republican picks for governor in Arizona and Pennsylvania have also pushed election-related conspiracy theories. Remember the farcical hearings after the 2020 election where Rudy Giuliani, trapezing around the country, pushed nonsense? It’s a guy responsible for the Pennsylvania edition now angling for governor in that state as the Republican pick — although polling shows him losing. Adam Laxalt, the Republican nominee for Senate in Nevada, promoted wild conspiracy theories after the last election that were roundly debunked — and the list goes on.

“Our responsibility is to history and to the people and the Congress, and not to the Democrats or the Republicans, and of course there are millions of Americans who hate both political parties and are independents or Greens or Libertarians or something else,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said Wednesday. “When the president said that there are election deniers on the ballot, he’s absolutely right about that. It’s hard to think of anything more dangerous than putting an election denier in charge of an election. It’s like putting a mob boss in charge of the police, or an arsonist as the fire chief for the town. I mean, that just doesn’t work. And so, I’m glad that message got through. That’s not a partisan message. It goes across the spectrum. If somebody is willing to deny the clear results of an election, they shouldn’t be running an election… You really are positioning yourself outside of the constitutional order and the rule of law if you continue to try to claim that you somehow won [in 2020].”

Biden will be participating in a campaign rally for Pennsylvania Democratic Senate pick John Fetterman this weekend. Former President Barack Obama, who has already made campaign stops in states including Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Arizona, will also be there. Check out Raskin’s comments below:
